What’s up everyone — Big G here, Today I’m reviewing the Neewer MS002 low-profile microphone boom arm, a Mic Arm that’s been getting a lot of buzz in the content creator and streaming space.
I picked one up myself (not sponsored), and after testing it out with my Shure SM7B, I’ve got some solid thoughts on what this thing does right — and where it could improve.
💪 First Impressions
Right out of the box, the MS002 feels premium for the price. It’s got an all-metal construction from the base up, which gives it a nice, solid feel. There are a few plastic parts (the cable clips and side pieces) — but overall, it feels solid.
Neewer includes multiple mic adapters and three Allen wrenches so you can tweak the tension exactly how you like. There’s a separate tensioner for the mic angle, one for arm lift, and two more for swivel — giving you a surprising amount of adjustability for something under $100.
🧰 Setup & Adjustments
Setup is simple, and one of my favorite touches is that you can remove the lower arm section completely. If you’re working with limited desk space or a tight streaming setup, you can attach the top arm directly to the clamp. That’s a small but super convenient feature that many other arms don’t offer.
Movement-wise, the side-to-side motion is smooth and quiet, no creaks or squeaks at all. The up-and-down movement isn’t the smoothest I’ve ever felt, but at this price, I wasn’t expecting luxury-tier damping — and it performs better than most arms in the same range.
🎧 Audio Test — Shure SM7B
I ran the MS002 with my Shure SM7B to check for handling noise. I moved the arm around mid-recording to see if it transferred vibrations or creaks into the mic.
✅ The result? Clean and quiet.
I didn’t notice any unwanted noise coming through. Dynamic mics like the SM7B work perfectly with this arm. If you’re using a condenser mic, it might pick up a little more movement, but for most users, it’ll be just fine.
⚠️ What I Didn’t Love
There are a couple of areas that could use some improvement:
- Cable management: Not great. The included clips feel cheap and a bit awkward to use. They get the job done but don’t inspire much confidence long-term.
- Limited top swivel: The top joint doesn’t rotate as far left or right as I’d like. And with the SM7B’s downward XLR connection, the cable can bump or pinch against the arm if you’re not careful.
Nothing here is a dealbreaker — just small things worth knowing before you buy, and some of the issues are only related to the SM7B.
💵 Final Thoughts — Worth It
Overall, the Neewer MS002 offers an incredible amount of value for its price. It’s sturdy, quiet, and looks clean on-camera. The removable lower arm gives you extra flexibility, and the performance easily competes with higher-end options.
If you’re setting up a podcast studio, gaming desk, or streaming rig, this mic arm is a smart buy — especially if you’re working with heavier mics like the SM7B.
